Brief Description:  Engine timing

Having marked the right side of the flywheel and case, I was able to check the timing of the primary and secondary timing with a timing light. See my 7/18/2013 entry.

This is a precarious procedure since you are near the rotating prop, but since the timing marks are not on the prop hub, I was able to stand by the leading edge of the right wing to check the timing.

With the engine running at about 1800 rpm, I checked the fixed primary timing on the top plug of #1 cylinder and it was right at the advertised 28 deg BTDC. I connected the timing light to the bottom plug of the #1 cylinder and the secondary was about 5 degrees retarded. I adjusted the secondary and have it firing at the 28 deg BTDC mark. Mag drop is now about 40 RPM on each ignition system.

Put heat wrap on the RH exhaust pipes and wraped the fuel filter with insulation and aluminized tape. Hopefully this will minimize any vapor lock problems with the fuel system. I've also changed from 93 octane automotive no-lead to 100LL av gas.
